Phnom Penh is located in the South of Cambodia. With an area of 290 km2 and the population of about 1.5 million, it is currently the largest city of Cambodia. The city has a tropical climate with two seasons: the rainy season (May to October) and the dry one (November to April). Situated at the confluence of three rivers named the Mekong, Bassac and the great Tonle Sap; Phnom Penh has its former name "Krong Chaktomuk" which means "City of Four Faces" because the 3 above rivers form an "X" where the capital is located. Under the French governance, Phnom Penh was kwon as the "Pearl of Southeast Asia" because of various large architectures built by the French. That is why it became the most important city of the Mekong basin since that period. It, however, was partially destroyed by the Red Khmer.
The Kampong Cham province, or Kompong Cham, lying on the banks of the imposing Mekong river, is the historical center
Mondulkiri is an eastern province of Cambodia which is sparsely populated and little visited as well. The province is beautiful with forested mountains, powerful waterfalls and the lush green rolling hills of the western side. Phnong and Kraol Stieng people are the two main ethnics inhabiting the area, in which Phnong people is the larger group. Mondulkiri is also called the "Switzerland of Cambodia" because of its vast and evergreen forests.
Ratanakiri province, also called "Rotanah Kiri", is a northern province of the country. This is the "land of red soil"...Because of the region isolation, Ratanakiri is one of the least developed regions of Cambodia. The facilities are very limited and so is the power of local government.
Siem Reap is the capital of Siem Reap province, which is over 300km to the north of Phnom Penh, Cambodia. This city attracts a lot of tourists thanks to the Angkor Temples located about 7km from the city center. The city spreads about 3km from the north to the south, along the Siem Reap River and 4-5km from the east to the west, along with the National Road No.6 Siem Reap means "Siam Defeated" and refers to the 16th-century victory that solidified the Khmer kingdom.
